Limited-edition print created by Matthew Bakkom as part of his project, Some Scientific Expeditions, which opened at October’s Bell Museum Social. Bakkom’s prints are still on view at the Bell, and what’s even better, they are for sale! You can see and buy them tomorrow night at the Bell, or anytime before the show closes on December 21st. (Note to Colin: great holiday gift idea for your wife!)
They’re really wonderful prints, and proceeds benefit Bell Museum art programs, which connect science and art to connect people and nature.
The Star Tribune did a nice feature on the series here. Message me if you have questions or want to see electronic images of prints or purchase them over the phone.

  6. Tomorrow Night at Ye Olde Bell Museum…

…we’ll host the second ‘Bell Museum Social’ from 6-9PM. If you’re in Minneapolis, stop by for a little art, a little science, maybe a beer or two? And to say hello to me in the midst of my last month of work here!

    BELL MUSEUM SOCIAL

The Bell Museum’s new quarterly social brings together contemporary art and science for an evening of social activities, performances, and presentations on a theme. Each event features the creative work of a Bell Museum Artist-in-residence, who will mine the museum’s collection of art objects, scientific specimens, and other curiosities to present a new research-based work.

BELL MUSEUM SOCIAL || DECEMBER 9 || “LIGHT”

    Featured Artist
    ALI MOMENI

    Featured Scientist
    FRANK BARNWELL

As we approach the longest night of the year, artist Ali Momeni (assistant professor, U of M Department of Art and founder, Minneapolis Art on Wheels) will explore the role that light plays in our environment, transforming the museum’s habitat dioramas using interactive projection technology. A short presentation by retired University biology professor Frank Barnwell (Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior), whose research explores circadian rhythms and the adaptations of intertidal shore crabs, will help illuminate the evening’s topic. Visitors are invited to create their own museum souvenir using objects and light in a vintage photo booth.

Light appetizers and a cash bar from Red Stag Supper Club

So much for encouragement. He would sit on the keyboard if it wasn’t for all the typing that needs to get done tonight.
